Analyse Phase: What's really going on here?

The measure phase is essentially descriptive - it captures the behaviour of the process, but does not advance any theories as to why the process behaves as it does.

In the analysis phase, we apply a mix of idea generation and idea evaluation tools to attempt to discern the major factors at play, to give us insights as to where we can profitably make changes to effect improvement.

At the end of the Analyse phase, we should have:

  • a detailed understanding of the main factors impacting process performance;
  • a measurement system that can providing the required information to track and assess process capability;
  • validated theories regarding the root causes of process performance issues;
  • additional information where required regarding governance and technology support for the process.
